Adriana Penruddocke: “I know if I execute what I have been working on – it (Olympics) should be possible”

Bermudian athlete, Adriana Penruddocke is preparing to compete in her first Pan American Games for sailing. In an exclusive video interview, she talks about her recent experiences sailing in France, and her unwavering commitment to playing the long game.

The world of sailing is a realm where skill, perseverance, and a profound connection with the water come together to create champions. Adriana Penruddocke, a young athlete at 23 years-old who has been turning heads in the sailing community. Especially after securing second place in her division and third overall at the Laser Radialat the ILCA North American Championships held in Kingston, Ontario. Her journey to the Pan American Games represents a significant milestone in her career as she says “its a prestigious event”, but her sights are set on a much grander goal—the 2028 Olympics.

Adriana’s journey began in her childhood, at the age of six she dedicated herself to the uniqueness of sailing thanks to her parents. Fast Forward to the age of 18 when she finally received overseas coaching which skyrocketed her development and love for the sport.

Earlier this year, Adriana had a remarkable opportunity that set her apart. She had the privilege of sailing in France on the very course that will be used for the upcoming 2024 Olympics. It was an experience that Adriana said she left with more confidence in her skill. 

While the 2024 Olympics are on the horizon, Adriana remains resolute in her commitment to the 2028 Olympics. She believes in playing the “long game,” a strategy that involves consistent hard work, continuous improvement, and an unwavering belief in her potential. However, she also knows her potential has taken her this far and while she says she doesn’t think or worry about what she needs to do to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, she also knows, it is within her reach.
