Tipping Debate: Should Gift Cards Replace Cash?

I hit the streets outside A1 Marketplace in Bermuda to ask 20 shoppers how they tip grocery packers — and over 70% said cash.
This debate sparked after a parent told TNN that tipping via store gift card felt unfair, calling for a cash-back option instead. But here’s the thing: the gift card system was started by customers, not stores — and Bermuda registers don’t allow cash back like they do in the U.S. or Canada.

While most packers prefer cash, the gift card option is better than nothing. Lindos Manager Zach Moniz says he’d rather customers tip in cash, calling the card system “a pain” for staff.
