People in Warwick spoke with Maya Palacio about the Parish Primary School Proposal. Included are responses from our Instagram Story where persons voted on certain proposed topics. In the video Maya says ‘trade schools’ but she is referring to ‘signature schools’. Trade schools is a school that can be listed under a multitude of Signature Schools.
The changes mentioned are not concrete – they are proposed. If you want things to be different – let Government know by filling out the form.

As for the foundation of a new school, the Minister of Education, Diallo Rabain, JP, MP tweeted, “…it is proposed that a new parish school for Devonshire Parish be built on the site of the K Margaret Carter Centre on Robert’s Avenue..”
Feedback
From MEDIA MAYA’s Instagram polls, 67% of people believe that Signature Schools for Senior level education would be better than what Bermuda currently has: middle schools and the three tier system. The majority of persons who interacted on Instagram and Twitter do not agree with enrolment by Parish Zone.
Curriculum is also a major issue. Persons feel that this needs to be addressed because they want to ensure that the level of education is equal amongst all the Parish Schools.
Teachers and Students
Not enough has been discussed about the students and teachers overall transition process. Commissioner of Education, Kalmar Richards said in the zoom meetings that the conversation about school changes is sensitive because students would have to transfer to a new school or travel further, staff and teacher roles will be different and – new roles will be created.
